President of the APPF

At the 28th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the Hon Tony Smith MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Australia, was elected President of the APPF.

The President will serve until the conclusion of the 29th Annual Meeting in 2021 working in an advisory capacity and promoting the role of the APPF as an international parliamentary forum.

Speaker of the House of Representatives

The Hon Tony Smith MP, was re-elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Australia, for the third time on 2 July 2019.

The Speaker was first elected to parliament as the Federal Member for Casey in 2001 and subsequently re-elected in 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019.

The Speaker has previously served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister from 30 January 2007 to 3 December 2007 and in a range of shadow ministerial positions in the 42nd and 43rd parliaments. The Speaker has served on numerous parliamentary committees and was most recently Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters in the 44th Parliament.

The Speaker studied a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne. He is married with two sons.
