Statement from the Participants in the Meeting of Young Parliamentarians

We, the participants in the first meeting of young parliamentarians from the Asia-Pacific Region (APR), held as part of the 21st session of the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), members of the national parliamentary delegations of the APPF member countries, representatives of youth parliaments, public youth and student associations, experts in the field of international youth cooperation, public diplomacy, cross-cultural dialogue and youth politics, deputies and journalists, welcome the initiative to hold this meeting, the purpose of which is to discuss important youth issues in our region, exchange experience and best practice in the field of working with young people, and involve the rising generation in integration processes in the APR.

We ask the leaders of our parliamentary delegations, young parliamentarians and the youth community of the APPF member countries to support:

 our intention to work together with the leadership of our countries and with young people with the purpose of creating a constructive dialogue and implementing an effective state policy with regard to young people, to be
pursued in the interests of our states, society and the young citizens themselves

 our initiative to run youth streams on a regular basis as part of the annual APPF sessions, with the motto of “Combining efforts for the sake of the future” and with a focus in practical ways in which APPF member countries may promote greater engagement of young people in civic in the APR.

 our desire to broaden the horizons of cooperation from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean in various fields concerning the rights and interests of young people

 our initiative to create a universal internet portal to promote communication between young parliamentarians and youth leaders in the APR states and the exchange of information and best legislative practice (innovations) in the field of youth policy.

We emphasise our desire and general wish to live in friendship, peace and harmony, to develop cultural, scientific and economic links between our peoples, to preserve our common heritage and to build a common future, and we note that young people have a special role in these processes.

We ask all interested parties to support the final resolution of our meeting and to assist the implementation of its provisions in practice.
