Recalling that from 13 to 15 January 1993, we saw the birth of a regional parliamentary organization, which is now the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, in Tokyo, Japan under the leadership of Hon. Yasuhiro Nakasone, former Prime Minister of Japan;
Affirming that the APPF has since evolved to become an effective Forum where 27 Member-Parliaments from the Asia and the Pacific gather annually to address issues of common concern and forge cooperation in resolving them;
Cognizant of the pivotal role of its Founder and President, Hon. Yasuhiro Nakasone in molding the organization into its present stature and his serving as beacon of the institution for the past 11 years now;
Aware that throughout his term as President of the APPF, Hon. Nakasone has been the epitome of the perfect statesman whose dream of a better Asia-Pacific Region has become a reality through the organization he founded;
Resolved, therefore, that the 12th APPF confer upon Hon. Yasuhiro Nakasone, President and Founder of the Forum the title of Chairman Emeritus in recognition of his invaluable efforts to make the organization both attuned and responsive to prevailing regional and global issues which directly impact on the Asia-Pacific Region.
