Resolution on Reform, Revitalization and Restructuring of the United Nations

THE TWELFTH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE ASIA PACIFIC PARLIAMENTARY FORUM (APPF):

Noting that the political and security situation of the Asia Pacific region and the world at large continues to be characterized by a number of serious challenges;

Recognizing the central role of the United Nations organization in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security;

Noting the recent appointment by the UN Secretary General of a High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on Threats, Challenges and Change;

Convinced that timely and comprehensive reform of work procedures, revitalization of principal organs, and restructuring of activities in the economic, social and related fields within the United Nations system are necessary to the efforts to foster international and regional peace, security and prosperity;

RESOLVES TO:

Urge all UN Member States to accord the utmost priority to the reform, revitalization and restructuring of the United Nations and to demonstrate the requisite political will;

Welcome the establishment of the High Level Panel of Eminent Persons on Threats, Challenges and Change;

Call on all parties concerned to render fullest cooperation to the work of the Panel;

Remain seized of this matter with a view to monitoring developments on a regular basis.
